"During our time in Vietnam, we visited Sa Pa in the Northwest. As many will know, the town itself is filled almost entirely with hotels and restaurants alone but the situation of Sa Pa is remarkable. We set out one morning for a full day walking in among the rice fields and villages of the Muong Hoa Valley. Within a few minutes of leaving the busy centre, we left the road and soon stopped at the home of a H’Mong family. It was hard to see, even in broad day light but it was very interesting to have an explanation from the woman who lived there (via our guide).

As we continued, we encountered more and more local people who walked with ease along the sides of the rice terraces – something I found pretty difficult to do! We went through a larger village with a school and tried some local fruit before later reaching a small wooden building, which turned out to be our lunch spot. Never have a cold Hanoi beer and freshly cooked Vietnamese dishes tasted so good. We arrived back at our hotel early in the evening tired but with many great memories – thoroughly recommended!"
